Crowded highways can lead to motorcycle accidents

Every year, it seem that there are more and more vehicles on Maryland roadways. As traffic increases so does the likelihood of a serious accident. In addition to car and truck traffic, there are also a significant number of motorcycles on the highways. Motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see, making it necessary for motorists to always be on the lookout for them in order to prevent motorcycle accidents.

In a recent tragedy in Waldorf, a motorcycle rider lost his life. A Mercury Mountaineer was proceeding northbound on Poplar Hill Road near Bellflower Place in Marlboro. Traffic in front of the Mountaineer slowed and the driver attempted to brake but veered into the southbound lane, hitting a motorcycle that was heading south.

The man on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mountaineer was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Weather is not believed to have played a part in the collision but speed may have been a factor. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Charles County Sheriff's Office.

The sudden death of a loved one is never easy to bear and that is doubly true during the holiday season. The tragedy of motorcycle accidents in Maryland happening near a holiday may serve as a reminder of one's loss for a long time to come. While there is nothing that can undo what has already happened, a civil lawsuit against a party deemed responsible may provide some compensation for medical costs, final costs and other verifiable losses.
