Deadly Motor Vehicle Accidents Occur As 2019 Begins

Cars and trucks have coexisted on the nation’s highways for many years. As life becomes more hurried and deadlines tighter, this coexistence has the potential to become increasingly dangerous in Maryland and other states. Truck drivers push the boundaries of fatigue in an effort to keep to tight schedules. Tragic motor vehicle accidents can result.

Early one morning an SUV was heading west on Route 392 near Finchville Road in Hurlock. A tractor-trailer was heading east at the same time. As truck neared the SUV it veered across the yellow line and struck the SUV on the driver’s side.

The woman who was driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in that vehicle, a 27-year-old man, was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, and according to police, his condition is not known. The driver of the truck was uninjured. The police are working on recreating the details of the crash. Upon completion, the findings will be sent to the Dorchester County State’s Attorney’s Office for review to determine what charges may be filed.

People are told to engage in defensive driving to increase their safety on the roads. While many motor vehicle accidents can be foreseen and avoided in Maryland, many cannot. A vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic can be one of the most difficult situations to react to effectively. Understandably, losing a loved one in such a situation can be devastating. A civil suit against the party deemed responsible may be an option, and a successfully litigated claim can provide compensation for medical costs, final expenses and other verifiable losses.
